What Is 1099-MISC Form?
According to the IRS, Form 1099-MISC is used to report miscellaneous payments made in the course of business or trade in a tax year. Business taxpayers use this form to report the miscellaneous payments made, such as rent, medical and health care payments, cash payments, and more.
For 2025 payments reported in 2026, some Form 1099-MISC payment categories still use the $600 threshold. For 2026 payments reported in 2027, for certain 1099-MISC categories, rents, medical and health care payments, and other income categories change. However, some 1099-MISC thresholds change: royalties remain at $10, fish purchases for resale to attorneys remain $600, and backup withholding must still be reported regardless of the payment amount.
