Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 1, 2025
1099ly ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our tax eFiling platform and related services.
1. Information We Collect
When you use 1099ly, we collect information necessary to provide our tax eFiling services. This includes:
Account Information: Your name, email address, password (hashed), and company information when you register.
Payer & Recipient Data: Tax identification numbers (EINs/SSNs), names, addresses, and payment amounts you enter for filing purposes. This information is used solely to prepare and transmit your tax forms to the IRS and applicable state agencies.
Usage Data: Information about how you interact with our platform, including pages visited, features used, and actions taken, collected to improve our service.
Payment Information: Billing details necessary to process your payments. We do not store full credit card numbers — payments are processed through a PCI-compliant third-party processor.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain our eFiling platform
- Transmit your tax forms to the IRS and state agencies on your behalf
- Process your payments securely
- Send transaction confirmations, filing status updates, and deadline reminders
- Provide customer support
- Improve and develop our services
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.
3. Data Sharing
We share your data only in the following circumstances:
IRS & State Agencies: Your filing data is transmitted to the appropriate tax authority as required to complete your filing.
Service Providers: We work with vetted third-party vendors (cloud hosting, payment processing, customer support tools) who process data only on our behalf and under strict data processing agreements.
Legal Requirements: We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or regulatory authority.
Business Transfers: In the event of a merger or acquisition, data may be transferred to the successor entity under equivalent privacy protections.
4. Data Security
We protect your data using industry-standard security measures including AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS 1.2+ encryption in transit, and infrastructure designed around the SOC 2 Type II framework, with a formal audit planned ahead of launch. While we implement robust security measures, no system is completely immune to security risks. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Filing data is retained for 7 years to comply with IRS record-keeping requirements. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time. Certain data may be retained longer if required by law or to fulfill ongoing contractual obligations.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. You may also object to or restrict certain processing activities. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@1099ly.com. California residents have additional rights under the CCPA, including the right to know, delete, and opt out of sale (we do not sell personal data).
